
When a high fashion Brand wanted to extend its fashion sunglasses range, it needed to find a partner which could provide polarized lenses that would meet its design criteria.
Statement styles meant that the polarized lenses had to be large and curved. Whilst sourcing optically correct lenses in the less curved 2, 4 and 6 base styles is more straightforward, the Brand needed to find a partner that was able to provide quality polarized lenses in face-hugging 8 base as well. The lenses also had to be thick enough to please the US market, where buyers often conduct their own manual lens check by applying pressure to the lens, known as the ‘thumb-test’. Thick lenses are often used to pass this test but they can be too heavy for comfortable day-long wear. So a thinner, tough lens was needed. And finally as a global player, the Brand required the lenses to be of sufficient quality to be sold internationally, avoiding the cost of managing different quality sunglasses for different markets.
