When you’re entering a new eyewear category, it’s crucial to use components that will maintain the strength of your sunglass brand. Lens quality in particular has the power to make or break customer loyalty and enhance your brand reputation.
All Polaroid lenses are made up of 9 functional elements ultra-carefully bonded together to achieve a high performance optical product.
1x Polarizing light filter
We place the all-important and highly efficient Polaroid polarizing layer at the heart of a ‘sandwich’ lens construction. Six other layers protect the polarizing filter from the intense heat and pressure applied during manufacture, as well as from the elements once the lens is in use. This leaves the filter’s impeccable polarizing efficiency untouched and unimpaired. Polaroid PTX4000 polarizing lenses are therefore 100% effective at protecting from the sun’s harmful and dangerous glare.
4x UV filters
We then add an extremely powerful UV light-absorbing layer to each side of the filter – many other polarized lenses only have UV absorption on the front side of the lens rendering the polarizing element susceptible to attack from aggressive UV if the sunglass is subjected to sunlight from the rear. These UV filters prevent 100% of harmful UVA, UVB and UVC light rays getting through to the eye. Because of these filters our polarizing sunglasses consistently surpass all international sunglass standards
for protecting against the sun’s harmful UV rays. You can see why these lenses are selected by the Cancer Council of Australia for inclusion in its special range of sun safety products.
2x PTX energy absorbing layer
The structure is now ready for optically-corrected, shatter-resistant cushion elements to be laid down on both sides of the UV filters. These help the lenses absorb the energy of an impact rather than shatter. Whereas other lenses may simply shatter into tiny pieces or – at best – pass the impact on through the frame to the eye zone, Polaroid PTX4000 polarizing lenses are not only able to withstand day-to-day knocks and drops, they protect the wearer. 2x Scratchproof coating
We seal our ‘sandwich’ lenses with a tough final layer applied to both the inside and outside of each lens. This means Polaroid polarized lenses can resist wear-and-tear and still look good as new. Read about our scratch tests.
